Important Public Notice: Water System Update & Corrective Actions — November 2025
The City of Roma is committed to maintaining transparent communication with all residents regarding the quality and safety of our drinking water. As part of this commitment, we are sharing an important update from the City of Roma Water Treatment Plant (WTP), PWS ID TX 2140007, regarding a turbidity reading that occurred during the month of November 2025.
What Happened?
During routine maintenance on November 19, 2025, at approximately 8:00 a.m., our team was performing work on turbidity meters when the Combined Filter Effluent (CFE) turbidity briefly spiked above the regulatory limit. The reading exceeded 1.0 NTU for a period of approximately 15 minutes, which is above the minimum treatment technique requirement.
Turbidity refers to the cloudiness of water caused by particles such as silt, clay, and microorganisms. While a higher reading does not necessarily indicate the presence of harmful contaminants, it is a performance indicator the State of Texas requires us to report.
Why This Matters
Although this short-term spike does not appear to pose an immediate health risk, turbidity exceedances can, under certain circumstances, interfere with disinfection processes. Out of an abundance of caution and in compliance with state regulations, we are notifying the public.
Corrective Actions Taken
The City of Roma WTP acted promptly to identify and address the cause of the spike. According to the notice, the issue was linked to maintenance activities that temporarily affected meter readings. Following the event, our staff implemented precautionary measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
